This past weekend I had the pleasure of Decluttering my own closet. I had clothes I didn’t want, couldn’t fit, didn’t like, never worn and many items from this past winter and former years. We all know that women (and men) can hang on to clothes forever, but it’s time to declutter stuff.
This is the time of year that we should have finished our spring cleaning but became overwhelmed and frustrated for many reasons. I don’t know about you, but my closet was filled with clothes from this year, last year’s season and some past seasons beyond that. Houston!!!!!!, we know this is a problem. I stood in front of my closet (which isn’t that big), took and deep breath and broke it down.
My advice to clients is to make three piles when organizing your closet; donate, pack away or throw away. You may have to try on clothes to see what fit or still looks good, but don’t hold on to what you don’t need or want. Make some room for the new stuff. I find that every year there are new items I need and there are definitely new items I DON’T NEED.
The easiest way for me to declutter and to manage my “stuff”, is to keep everything in clear storage bins. I go to the Container Store and purchase all of my bins (or order online @ containerstore.com/welcome.htm).
If you find that this task is too much or you don’t have time. Get help. An organizer is always at your fingertips.
